Rohan Grey – #MintTheCoin, Digital Currency, & Automatic Stabilizers: Towards a Crisis-Resilient Macroeconomic Policy Framework

In 2020, Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Rep. Pramila Jayapal, along with nine other House cosponsors, introduced the "Automatic BOOST to Communities Act" (#ABCAct), which provides direct, ongoing cash relief to every person in America, and is funded by minting a series of $1 trillion coins under the Coinage Act. In addition, the #ABCAct establishes a public digital currency system that incorporates both universal 'FedAccounts' and a system of privacy-respecting, Treasury-administered 'eCash wallets'. This session explores the vision behind the #ABCAct, and its implications for improving macroeconomic resilience in anticipation of future crises.

Dina Gilio-Whitaker – Indigenous Knowledge and the Discipline of Planetary Health

The coronavirus (SARS 2) outbreak has been a harsh planetary wake up call, demanding that we begin thinking seriously about societies structured on unfettered capitalist development that has thrown the planet's bio-systems dramatically out of balance. This is not just a problem of economics and science; it's also a problem of the epistemologies and philosophies that undergird these structures. Any solutions that don't address and alter these guiding paradigms will be incomplete at best, and catastrophic at worst. Trish Greenhalgh – Primary Health Care, Video Consultations, and COVID-19

With a view to containing COVID-19, a shift from in-person to remote consulting is occurring. Clinicians are thus faced with a new disease and a new way of interacting with patients. Most patients with COVID-19 can be managed remotely with advice on symptomatic management and self isolation. Although such consultations can be done by telephone in many cases, video provides additional visual cues and therapeutic presence. Safety-netting advice is crucial because some patients deteriorate in week two, most commonly with pneumonia.
